Main swimming pool construction systems

Reinforced concrete swimming pools

Modular reinforced-resin pools
Some modern modular systems use reinforced resin or structural polymer components to create a permanent pool that can be installed above ground, within a deck, partially recessed or fully in-ground. The exact engineering varies considerably between manufacturers.
“Resin pool” is not one universal construction standard. The term might describe structural wall modules, resin within a composite shell, or another proprietary system. A quotation should therefore identify precisely what is structural, what retains the water and how the pool is supported.
Polypropylene and thermoplastic pools
Thermoplastic pools use fabricated sheets welded together to form a watertight shell. Smaller shells may be factory-made, while larger or access-restricted projects can involve sectional fabrication and specialist welding on site.
The shell normally requires suitable external structural support, foundations and careful detailing around fittings. These pools can be configured with skimmer or overflow systems and may suit contemporary domestic, wellness and commercial-style projects.
Stainless-steel swimming pools
Stainless-steel pools can be prefabricated or assembled from sections by specialist fabricators. They are associated with a crisp, contemporary appearance and can be useful where structural weight, restricted access or integration within a building is important.
The complete specification must consider the grade of stainless steel, fabrication quality, welding, water chemistry, surrounding materials and the pool environment. This is a specialist system rather than a generic metal tank.
Shipping-container swimming pools
Container pools use a shipping-container structure or a purpose-built container-style module as the starting point for a self-contained pool. They may arrive with much of the shell, insulation, filtration, lighting and optional swim-current equipment already incorporated.

Be careful with the word “resin”

In-ground, semi-inground, above-ground or indoor?

Fully in-ground
